Jewish and Gentile Basketball - an Installation (1999)

The installation is based on the double sense of
the letter 'J' (pronounced: "Yott" in German)

NUR FÜR J
NICHT FÜR JOTT
The text under the short basketball net can be read in two very different ways:

1. "Only for Jews": this basketball net is only for use by Jews
2. "Only for God": this basketball net symbolises the
Jewish tradition of circumcision
done as demanded from Abraham by God.
Likewise, the text under the long basketball net can be read in two very different ways:

1. "Not for Jews": this basketball net is not for use by Jews
2. "Not for God": this basketball net is not circumcised
because Gentiles do not show their
allegiance to God through circumcision.
